Subject: World Peace Day - September 11: I'm about to ask you to join me in doing something that is so exciting and that has me so lit up that I can barely sit still to write this! Are you ready? This idea was my response to a challenge to dream up a project that was so inspiring and so big that it seemed impossible to achieve. This is pretty big, but it is so powerful and self-perpetuating that I already see it as done! And so I ask you to imagine that it IS already done, and I ask you to imagine yourself reading the following newspaper headline and knowing that you took part in making this happen: THE UNITED STATES PROCLAIMS SEPTEMBER 11 "WORLD PEACE DAY" ALL OVER THE WORLD. ALL MILITARY CONFLICTS ARE HALTED FOR 24 HOURS ON 9/11 TO DEMONSTRATE THAT PEACE BEGINS AT HOME. THE AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION SUSPENDS ALL CIVIL LITIGATION PROCEEDINGS ON 9/11 And that's just the beginning. I foresee that the possibilities of World Peace Day will multiply exponentially with each person who participates and adds their input. I see schoolchildren doing World Peace Day projects and sending them to children in other countries. I see people from all countries reaching out to each other and communicating through a World Peace Day website. I see a World Peace Day postage stamp. I see arguments and differences set aside and relationships healed and people all over the world joining hands and hearts in the offering of peace. I can't even imagine all the possibilities. That's why World Peace Day needs you and your imagination to be as huge as it deserves to be. Remember how we all felt in the aftermath of 9/11? Remember how incredibly inspiring and uplifting it was to see our country -- and, unbelievably, the world -- uniting as it did? I saw that uniting as a phoenix rising from the ashes, and I saw the possibility that all those people did not give their lives in vain. But that miraculous unity seemed to dissipate, didn't it, as we took up our lives again and as we began to succumb again to our fear, anger, and aggression -- which, by the way, according to The Evil Emperor in George Lucas's Star Wars, are the three qualities that make up The Dark Side! Let's revive that unity. Let's propel that phoenix out of the ashes! Let's send the message that we learned something and that our loved ones did not give up their lives in vain. Let's create a miracle. Let's invite the world to join us in a celebration of peace that will elevate the entire human race. Let's inspire and uplift the world, and let's overcome The Dark Side, if only for a day! The most fantastic journey begins with a single step.
