August 2009  - What Do You Wish For?

Bookmark and Share

What is your wildest dream? What is it that takes you to a totally different place when you think about the possibilities?

What did you dream about when you were a kid?

This month, spend some time day dreaming — letting your mind wander back to those dreams that you had that seem so impossible now that you are an adult.

Did you look at magazines and wish you could be a cowboy?  Or, a movie star living in a big house?  Or, a doctor or nurse, saving lives?  How about a ballerina or an ice skater or a race car driver?  Or traveling around the world.  Or going off into space?

Did you wish a genie or fairy godmother would appear and grant you three wishes?  What would you use your three wishes for if that happened today?

As we get older, "daily life" gets in the way and seems to rob us of our earliest dreams.  We get a job, pay our bills, get married, have kids, maybe get divorced, get fired or laid off, lose something or someone that is very dear to us and we shrink back; our dreams and goals may be put away as "unrealistic" or simply allowed to shrivel up and die.  We fail to dream big, we fail to reach out beyond where we are toward something greater.

This month, we challenge you to get out of the current rut you are in and try experimenting with something new, something different.

Take some time to dream BIG!  Take some time for yourself to imagine how your life might be if you could do what you have always wanted to do.  Allow yourself to dream without any criticism or judgment about whether it is possible or not.

Allow yourself to have some time to yourself — every single day — when all your obligations and duties and "must do" items can wait.  If possible, go out in nature somewhere where you can spread your arms, see the sky, feel the grass under your feet and walk among the tall trees.  Allow the vastness of nature to inspire you and nourish you this month.

You may or may not take any action toward your dreams this month — that’s up to you.  Do take the time to have some dream time every day when you are awake.  When you go to sleep at night, tell yourself that you are going to let your dreams run free during the night.

If you remember your dreams, you might want to write down what comes up for you.  Don’t censor it —just let it flow — easily and effortlessly.

Feel gratitude for just being alive, for being present on this beautiful planet, for having what ever you do have now and be grateful for whatever may show up for you in the future.  Focus on the positive and stay away from anything negative that will pull you down.

Keep negative people out of your life as much as possible and spend your time with people you like or care about as much as possible.

Let your imagination run free even if only for a few minutes at a time and you will be amazed how much more energy and "aliveness" you will feel after a month of doing this exercise.

If you are thinking about creating sources of income, new business ideas or exploring expansion of a existing business, our book Income Without a Job has some great exercises to assist with that.
