Online NewsletterDecember 2009 – Gratitude is one of the most powerful forces there is That’s a pretty strong statement, I know. Acknowledging the abundance that we already have is what helps to bring more of what we already have into our lives. Gratitude for the good as well as the "not so good" is what helps to make our lives rich beyond our wildest dreams. I know, some of you think I’m stretching it here. What I’m trying to explain is "The "Strangest Secret" as described by Earl Nightingale. He said that the strangest secret is that "what we think about, we become." Therefore, if we are practicing gratitude, we become more and more grateful. We become more grateful because our lives are filled with things to be grateful for. We become more grateful because we are actively looking for things to be grateful for. We are actively feeling more excited about life and all it offers, therefore, we are accomplishing more. Think about something in your life that might be "not so good." Now, find a way to be grateful for it. See it as a lesson learned or to be learned, an obstacle conquered or to be conquered, a challenge to do something different, a chance to relate to someone else in a new way, a grand opportunity to have a brand new adventure or a wonderful surprise that will turn into a glorious experience. Remember, your view of life is just that – YOUR VIEW. So, if you want to change your life, change how you think about it. See your life as a constantly unfolding story of the grand adventure of YOU – a unique human being with unique lessons to learn and unique experiences to be had. No one else is living your life — only you. At the end of your life, will you look back and say that it was filled with pain and sorry, or will you say, "What wonderful adventures I had this time around!" The choice is all in your view, your perspective, your outlook on what is happening all around you. The greatest secret is that you can *change* that view also. You can focus on the "bad economy" or the "bad news" or the "injustice of life" or any number of sad stories that will keep you from gratitude. Or, you can choose to see everything as part of the spice of life – those added attractions and unexpected adventures that keep you from getting bored every day and sleeping your life away. If you have a dream of doing something or creating something or building something, start today to be grateful for every single idea, every single step forward you make, every setback as well that helps you see where you are on the path to living the most glorious life you can possibly live. It’s YOUR life you are living and only yours. No one can live it for you. How will YOU live it? With verve and excitement or dreading each day as not up to your expectations? Every day, make a commitment to do something for yourself, something that contributes to your own personal success, something that will put you one step closer to your most fondly held dream. And, be grateful for everything and every one that comes into your life. They are all part of the tapestry of life – even if you can’t see that at the moment. Be grateful, and let gratitude fill your thoughts and watch what happens. Mark a date in the future on your calendar to look back and notice how wonderfully things have unfolded for you. As we enter the "holiday season," make time to slow down and appreciate what you already have, even if it is not all that you think you want. Revel in gratitude. Revel in wishful thinking and pay attention to how much better you feel. The better you feel, the easier it is to be even more grateful. Try it.
