Online NewsletterMay 2010: Listen to your heart singThis month in the Northern Hemisphere, we are enjoying spring – flowers blooming, trees starting to sprout leaves, birds singing, animals making nests in preparation for the birth of new little ones. We feel compelled to get out in the garden and plant things. This is a time of newness, of freshness, of the birthing of new life. Ancient ones celebrated this time of year with Beltane festivals and May polls to honor the fertility gods, while farmers plowed the fields to prepare for planting their crops. Modern day folks may celebrate by visiting a local home improvement store or garden center to get what we need to participate in an ancient ritual that we’ve long forgotten existed. This is the beginning of a new year that doesn’t match the Gregorian calendar and yet we know within ourselves that something very special is happening on our planet around this time of year. As you notice the spring time and the growth around you, what makes your heart sing? Is it listening to the birds or seeing the explosion of green growth or the beauty of the flowers? Is it listening to the laughter of your children or grandchildren? Is it being with someone you love? Is it working on a favorite hobby or participating in a favorite sports activity? Is it building something with your hands or creating something out of nothing? Is it sailing on the open sea or sitting on a mountain top? Is it walking on the beach or walking in the woods? Is it caring for someone in need or sharing your gifts with the world? Or, whatever else might be special to you. Whatever makes your heart sing is what you should pay special attention to at this time of year. Nurture that and it will grow. No matter what else is happening in the world around you, taking time to enjoy beauty, love, peace and joy is a priceless that you give to yourself. The more attention you pay to what is good in your life, the more good will be in your life. That’s the way it works – what you put your attention to expands and what you don’t spend energy on, contracts until it is no longer there. When you encounter people that are challenging, be like the Kung Fu Master: notice what is happening as if watching a movie and keep moving on. Don’t stop and battle them. Just let them and their issues go, knowing that each person is on their own path just as you are on your own path. Wish them well and bless their journey. Then, turn your attention to the beauty, love, peace and joy that is yours. When you are able to do this, you can achieve a higher level of balance in your own life; your life will be much smoother and easier. And, your ability to create what you want will be much more visible to you. Some tips for this month:
