According to an article in Wikipedia, the earliest reference to April 1 and April Fool’s Day can be found in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales (1392) Today, April Fool’s Day consists of light-hearted pranks, tricks and jokes. With Spring coming to much of the world, many people are ready for a chance to lighten up and April Fool’s Day is the perfect remedy to allow them to be silly and express some of the creativity that has been bottled up during the long, cold, dark winter months.
